Katy Makes A Plea For Prissy, Piper and Pete

Some of the most intelligent of deductions made from observation, often come not from an educated adult, but rather from a child with a huge heart.
Visiting our Animal Adoption Center last Saturday was one such child, Katy Gill, granddaughter of long time board member Katherine “Kitty” Jones.
Some kids, even younger ones, make instant friends with animals and Katy is one of those types. Animals know this and they flock to her as would puppies to their mother. Katy will spend hours with our animals, then go see a movie about animals, and want to start all over again! She is a natural born Humane Society Leader if there ever was one.
Katy was able just last Saturday, after explaining to a family why it was in their best interests to adopt a particular puppy, to effect her very first adoption on our behalf! And Katy Gill my friends, is only ten years old!
A very perceptive child indeed, after walking all three dogs, Katy asked why Prissy, Piper and Pete, three “Collie-Rotty” mixes from an original litter of six puppies, have been with us for so long. She proclaimed them wonderful dogs and that she couldn’t understand why they hadn’t been adopted after over seven months. Come to think of it, we can’t figure out why either.
Prissy, Piper and Pete are truly wonderful dogs with great personalities who will make wonderful additions to one or more families. I’d really love to be able to tell Katy that because of her efforts, three of our longest canine residents found a home. You can make that happen, you know. Why don’t you check out Prissy, Piper and Pete any time between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday at our Animal Adoption Center located at 950 Hal Henard Road here in Greeneville.
I was out at our Animal Adoption Center the other day as Big Phil Gentry (aka “The Scooter Streaker”) was taking the weekly pictures for this week’s column. You honestly don’t know the lengths to which Phil and his partner, the Sun’s other ace photographer, Jim “Portrait Shooter” Feltman will sometimes go to get the “perfect” picture, often assuming positions that would draw admiring looks from a circus performer. Phil must have been all the rage when the limbo was in vogue (if you’re under forty you probably wouldn’t understand….don’t worry, Phil does). It’s especially interesting to watch if they’re taking a photo of a kitten or a cat who is in with some other playmates. I’m going to take my video camera up there one of these days when Phil is doing his thing. I’ll ask him if he’d make it worth my while not to send my video into America’s Funniest Home Videos. To put it another way, I’ll make Mr. Gentry an offer he cannot refuse.
