Injured Animal Pick-Up
The Humane Society provides 24-hour injured animal pick-up when the pet's owner cannot be located. Please call the police or sheriff's department. They will contact the Adoption Center, and, if possible, an employee or volunteer will pick up the injured animal and transport it to a veterinarian.
Cruelty Investigation
Tennessee state law requires all animal owners provide food, water, shelter and care to their pets and livestock.
The Humane Society's Cruelty Officer investigates all reports of cruelty for domestic animals. For example: dogs and cats. He also assists in the prosecution of severe cases.
The Humane Society does receive calls for livestock animals and will take information from reporting individuals. However, the Humane Society is not authorized to investigate livestock cruelty. These reports are given to the University of Tennessee's Agricultural Extension Office. These reports are then investigated by one of the Extension Agents and they report back, with their findings, to the Humane Society.
Please report any suspected case of animal cruelty by calling the Adoption Center, (423) 639-4771 or 787-1771, 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. All calls concerning cruelty will be kept confidential. However, it is required that the reporting individual provide a contact name and telephone number for the investigating officer to contact for further information.
